Before or after??? …THAT is the question!

As a rule…if you plan on doing cardio on the same day as your resistance training, it’s better to do it after your weight routine.  Doing intense cardio beforehand will deplete most of your available blood sugar, which you need for those quick bursts of energy that resistance training requires.  Also, cardio will fatigue your muscles before you lift a single weight, which will prevent you from maxing out your muscles’ potential.

However, if you are looking to not necessarily maximize your muscle growth, but just stay lean and tone.  Cardio beforehand is ok as well.  In a nutshell, cardio is important, and unless you are training to become a bodybuilder….get it in whenever you can.  Before OR after is better than not at all!

    It’s good advice. I’ve noticed a lot of people at my gym doing their weights before their cardo and they all have bulky muscular arms and are generally well defined with their muscles.

    I’m slowly getting into lifting heavier and heavier weights, but I always find that walking before weights helps me. Just raises my heart rate a little and gets me ready for the strain of the weights.

    Personal preference I suppose.
